Still Here...

Everytime I'm ready to delete this blog so I can have more free time, I get sucked back into keeping it (and it's of my own doing).  This is what is keeping me from deleting it now -- the opportunity to show/help/create...

Mckaylapreview I found out about this kit on a blog link someone sent me and if it helps even a little, I thought it important to share it:  Scrapbook Mega Kit for Autism

As many of you know, I happen to be lucky enough to work as a teacher with many children on the spectrum (Autism and/or Aspergers) and they are amazing, sweet, caring, Mckaylajournals and lovely children (as are their families).  But it's often a tough road for their families to get the help these children need, and there are often tons of medical expenses and services required that aren't covered, or are difficult to access, like p.t. (physical), o.t. (occupational therapy), s.t. (speech), etc.   Here's an easy way we can all help.

Mckaylaframes You can also go to this site: The Scrap Habit for more preview pictures.  Whether you donate, donate for this mega kit, and/or link it on your blog, you're helping someone.

And if you're a Mckaylaribbonsscrapper but not a digi-scrapper, here's the op. to get a giant kit with enough "stuff" to set you on the right path!  And if you have questions (basic mind you), I'll help or steer you in the right direction.

On a more personal level, I'm still recovering from either a nasty stomach flu or food poisoning, but it's almost Friday!!!  Happy?!  Oh yes.  Have a great weekend.

New news....

My incredibly beautiful niece, Tracey, is a talented artist/painter (it sadly doesn't run in my family as she's married to my nephew, Stevie -- can I still call him Stevie?).

Anyway, Tracey paints murals for people's homes, offices, studios and waiting rooms, and does amazing things on the walls in children's rooms...."dream rooms" are what customers call them.  Tracey now has a website: Mind's Eye Mural Painting and I'd really appreciate it if you could plug this and link her on your blog as it'll get the word out....(and as I am most likely closing this blog soon).  They're a young family with 4 beautiful children.  Give her a good toot - she lives in the Chicagoland area.  Any of you Chi-town and Chi-burbs girls give her a call and check out the website.  She's got nice photos of her murals and hand-painted furniture.

And my sb-ing friends, have you seen the cute Pclayers_coventgardenpage04_previ_2 Tinkering Ink quick pages (freebies!) from the PC Layers girls?  Simply GORGEOUS.  Each qp link is only up for 24 hours, so you'll have to jump on 'em.  I've gotten pages 2,3, & 4 (somehow missed the first one).  If you sign-up on their blog for their newsletter, you won't miss any of them.

The most recent one is really beautiful and was done by someone who helped me as I got started digi-scrapping.  I was a total stranger, but she always took the time to answer my emails (and still does).   She also teaches beginning PSE classes on-line (with videos!), has lots of tutorials, and has a nice way with photos.  Here's..... Kayla.

Have a great week everyone.

I've been tagged...

My husband has been working on his computer most of the day -- it seems our dd downloaded some music through Limewire (we pay for it) that had a virus.  We're hoping it hasn't wiped out his entire computer (why wasn't she using her own computer?  Because she had a similar problem 6 months ago)...yep.  Cross your fingers...say a prayer!

Colleenmarch0814facts_jpeg_4_webHere's a recent digi LO - I used Julie Shahin's QP for the background.  The alpha on left is Vicki Stegalls Margarita, font is Scriptina, the quote is Sande Krieger, label/tags are from Polka Dot Potato (freebie a while ago).

Friend_title Also made a quick "friend" banner - not sure what I plan to use it for but was playing around this morning (used Rhonna's alpha), Lindsay Jane's glitter frame, April A's (PCLayers) green paper, Graziela Mendes flower, and Booland ornaments).

My digi friend, Shauna, tagged me and since I haven't had the time to blog much, thought the least I could do is participate.  But I am closing down my blog soon - decided I just don't have the time/energy to devote to it.  If I start another one up someday, it'll be private...let me know if you want to be emailed when I do.

A quiet and sad Easter...

Img_0011_6 Last night, we euthanized our beloved dog, Spanky.  He'd been failing since the summer due to old age (almost 18 y/o), kidney issues, arthritis, blindness, loss of appetite, etc.

S. & I might have considered it sooner, but wanted K. to have as much time as possible with him.... they were the same age and grew up together, and she wasn't ready for it to end.

Img_0020Spanky was the agreeable little dog pushed in a young girl's stroller, running alongside a newly accomplished bike rider, roller skater, her tea party partner, her constant companion, and her sleepmate (he preferred her pillow).

We have so many wonderful memories of this sweet and amazing dog, and thank God for the day he came into our lives (via a rescue) at age 3-1/2.  If you believe in heaven, that's where I picture Spanky now...and everyone is fighting over him.  This tiny dog was unbelievably soft, cuddly, easy-going, gentle, and funny.  His only downside was his finicky tastebuds (thought he was human).

Watercolorspankyrip2_jpegFor those of you who haven't gone through this process, a dear friend (whose sister works for a vet) recommended we give him a piece of chocolate just b/4 the final  shot.  We didn't know how our vet would feel about it, but brought a few chocolate chips wrapped in a piece of paper towel.  Spanky had been lethargic all day and hadn't eaten more than a bite of two of pureed food, but when I held the paper towel near his nose (at the Vet), he kept his eyes closed but perked up and started sniffing.  I brought it a little closer (as we waited for the dr.) and he tried to eat the whole package - paper towel & all.  It was a welcome laugh for us after a full day of conversation/tears... until our decision was made.  The chocolate chips were soft and mushy from holding them...perfect for him .  As I broke each one into smaller pieces and gave him the bites, I whispered who they were from: one from mommy (me), one from K, S, ....etc., until all his special loved ones were named.

We chose to be in the room and K. held him while the vet did his thing (there's a sedative shot first, then the final shot - both inserted into a small catheter in his leg).  I know it's supposed to be very therapeutic being a part of it all, but it was really, really hard for my dd to leave him at the end.  I don't imagine she slept well and woke today in tears.  How can you not at her age...and that makes it so much harder as a mom.

We cancelled our Easter brunch plans,  and instead, I made Irish oatmeal, bacon, and blueberry/banana streusel muffins...then K. went to work (which is probably a good diversion for her right now).

I made the LO above, in honor of our sweetie, as therapy.  I know I should list all the credits for the great digi products, but due to the circumstances, didn't keep track of 'em.  The beautiful watercolor papers, however, are Mabelle @ MyDigiStyle.com.  The oval journal block and swirls are Rhonna Farrer's....that's all I remember.  But if you have a question, certainly I can go searching.

Wishing you all a beautiful Easter.  If you made it this far, thanks for reading my story.

It's My Baby's Birthday!!!

1991katieeasterOne of my very favorite days in my entire life was 18 years ago.

HAPPY 18TH BIRTHDAY KATIE-BABE!!!  She has been looking forward to this day for at least a year.  Most sentences this year began with, "Well, when I'm 18...I won't have to --", or "When I'm 18... you can't tell me to --". Yes, it's been a very long year (smile).

But I am a very proud mommy today Katieyoungcinderand it went by so quickly - a blink of an eye (or 2).  Katie has always been both a girlie-girl and a girl who held her own with the boys.  She really loved & enjoyed her friends, girls and boys, equally.

1colleen4x6bdaycard082ndkatie_2And I just realized as I loaded this card that I made almost an identical card for my niece for her b-day...about a month ago and I was probably playing around...then got busy and stopped and forgot.  There was this huge crunch to get valentine gifts and valentine digi cards made and in the mail to my family out-of-state, including b-day cards and gifts for 2 of them.  Well neither of them read my blog I don't think! lol

It's such an exciting time for Seniors... hearing back from Dscn2065colleges... working and being so independent...and lots of plans for travel (eye roll).  We've had discussions about Natalee Hollaway (the 18 y/o who disappeared/was murdered in Aruba).  I told her she couldn't go to Mexico with her friends until she was 27 y/o.  Well, we'll just see.

Img_1146_framegrnPhotos above (approx.) are: 2 years, 5 years, 14 years and now age 18....

LOVE YOU (MORE) BABE!  Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness.  And don't forget to lock your car doors, don't talk on the cell phone while driving, and be safe!

xo Mama

It's Johnny's Birthday!

....remember that old Beatles' song?  The Beatles wrote 2 b-day songs that I know of (You Say It's Your B-day is the other one).

It's actually my sister Sharon's b-day todayShari50bdaygreenchandelier_2 .  Happy B-day Shari-baby!!!  Wishing you a year full of love, good health, and lots of sb product!

LOVE YOU!!! xo Coll

Credits: I made this 3 weeks ago...and hope this is everyone ~ Susan (Bucket) Rodriguez for the owl; Rhonna Farrer number stamps, vintage frame & white frame around happy b-day; Natalie Malan's Flourish edging around entire card; Cherie Mask/2Peas green chandelier (and I'm pretty sure the white one underneath the green is Celeste Rockwell Jones);  the pink flourish stamp at the bottom is Celeste Rockwell Jones (was a freebie at one time, but I'm sure you can get it on PC Layers); 7Gypsies Sushi kit "With Love" round stamp; 7Gypsies Reef stamp across top/middle & under my name.  That's a lot of work if you don't keep track - sheesh.

Img_5647_edited1And finally, here's a clock that I made for Sharon as part of her b-day gift (mostly Heidi product/Maya Rd. chipbd. crown).

It's also a playgroup friend's 18th b-day today:  Happy Birthday Zachary!! (if you're reading this Barbara give him a big hug from us).  Our playgroup met when the "babies" (now 18 or close to 18) were just a few months old.  Happy B-day Ty and Jesse too!

Good night! xo

Posting a little work finally...

Kids_valentine3_2008I'm in the throes of parent-teacher conferences and report writing (mid-year reports) or I would be on here more - truly!  I've been working on them every evening after work and weekends just to get them done on time.  Hate how work curtails my FUN TIME! LOL

But I wanted to share a few things I made a couple weeks ago and just haven't had time to upload...then I'm off to bed.  Many of my loved ones have b-days in Feb., so I made some digi b-day cards (can only post one) and V-cards for my class....the kids' and teachers' valentines are "homemade".  Makes 2008myvalkidsthem more meaningful... and it's so fun to see how excited the little ones get (smile).

For my first and 2nd V-day cards credits go to: SausanDesigns-SBG for hearts, borders, pp, & epoxy brads; Raspberry Road Designs (who gives so many great freebies)for the cute v-day label tapes and pp; Ann Langpap for the brush twirly/heart in #1; and C.Baumann, DigiMagic for the angels brush on #2).

The b-day card is for my sweet goddaughter, Sondra, whose b-day is tomorrow.  Happy B-day babe!  LOVE YOU and can't wait to see Sondrabdaycard08you this summer.  (Credits for this card go to Rhonna Farrer... and used Scriptina font.)  I just enlarged it because it was so small compared to the V-day cards above.  Made it a little less clear, but didn't want to usurp Son's b-day!

I'd love digi advice for how you keep track of what you use on each digi project.  I usually try to label each layer, but it means reopening them in PSE since I did it weeks ago.  Anyone have a better idea for keeping track and giving these designers credit?

I'm also in the process of making a very cool Kristintilley_scrapyourheartoutlayered Valentine page from a template provided by Kristin Tilley.  I started it last week and haven't had a chance to finish yet. And Kristin, was so cool - she left the template in layers, so you/I can add to each one.  It gave me the opportunity to see all the layers/understand the process.  And the whole digi thing makes more sense to me....like seeing puzzle pieces instead of the whole.  So thank you amazing digi designer, Kristin - and don't you love those hearts she used?  The template is for a challenge at Prima (but darn if I can find it).   Finally figured out where to find Kristin (so just updated this). I usually save downloads by designer name, then site, and finally kit name.  And I used Shabby Miss Jenn's cute Love Shack kit on it.

Good night!!  Have a great week, xo

Check this out...

Heard about this and thought I'd share.  It's pretty powerful and reminiscent (to me at Defaultleast) of Dr. Martin Luther King:  Yes We Can by Black Eyed Peas Will.i.am  Lots of beautiful people....  I heard Obama raised over $3 million online in one day (not on u-tube!)....lol.

Parent-teacher conferences today and Friday, then Mon.-Tues. again.  Off to get some reports ready.  Have a great day.

Super Tuesday!

That's right America, it's Super Tuesday in California tomorrow.  TIME TO GET OUT AND VOTE EVERYONE.  I'd like to tell you which way to vote (lol), but seriously would be happy if everyone voted because it's important and part of our civic duty.  May the best wo/man win!

And wanted to share a yummy sounding recipe link I just got from Cathy Pascal for Martha's Almond Poppyseed Loaf Cake - Click Here.  I love when you ask a complete stranger for something (the recipe link), and they so kindly oblige...thank you Cathy!  She's part of the new Prima Hybrid design team.  They're offering lots of freebie templates from all DT members on their site and indiv. blogs and the gallery and shoppe are amazing.

As I've gotten addicted to this digi hobby (or at least collecting "stuff"), I've already filled up my hard drive and it's huge!  My dh was in shock....we'll be moving my new digi files onto my external drive real soon...hehe.  It's the fault really of Marie over at Digi Free.  She updates her blog DAILY with all the freebies, which brings me to other blogs, and other kits for sale, and other things to drool over.  It starts small....watch out.  It's a wonder I get anything sb-d (truly).

Here's someone else's blog (one of my favs.) who's on the Prima H. DT: Julie Ann Shahin.  I'm supposed to get updates autom. from her blog and haven't so I'm going to have to fix that (grumble grumble).

1And finally, if you haven't seen sneak peeks of all of Heidi's new "stuff" - go to Monique McLean's blog....great photos.  Want it all.

Have a great week...1 down, 4 to go! xo

It's a...chandelier!

I found out that one of my fav. digi Chandeleir_digital_freebie designers, Celeste Rockwood Jones, who I've talked up in previous posts, is offering a free digi chandelier on Paper Crafts Magazine's site and she made the hybrid card pictured in the photo.  When you go to this link, it'll give 2 download links - click on both...so worth while!  One says Feb. downloads and although there's a babyish bingo card on the download, also has chandelier and some cute hearts - really cute.  And click the 2nd link Simple Sentiments -- lots of very, very cute quotes in nicely made journaled/decorated boxes.  Wow.  All free.  And Natalie Malans, another fav. designer (first found her because of her cute digi calendars w/all the designers at PC Layers) is offering a nice giveway on her blog...she always does something nice.

Most of you know, I've only been playing with digi LO's a little while.  I Paigedigibeach got my sweet sis., Sharon, interested too (she's not a blogger YET), and she made the most incredible digi LO of her grandchild (yep, she's way older than me....).  Give her some love her if you like it!  The frame is BirgitD - Anticipation kit (I think, but will confirm w/Shari over the weekend).  PP is Prima Hybrid, and the gorgeous banner is Rhonna's.

There's a newsletter I was given the link to for a really cute digi site: Scrape and Scrap - they have a couple cute freebies just in time for Val's day too.  Thanks so much Erica (check previous post for Erica's blog - she's been in tons of digi designer books) for turning me onto them.

And on the other side of the world is a digi scrapper who has so many links to good digi sites, besides cute LO's...check out Sharon at:     There's so many other people I admire in the digi world - love Katie Pertiet, always mention Rhonna Farrer, and there's amazing Sande Krieger, Natalie Malan, and a lot of lesser known names (Bucket my girl, Julie Ann Shahin (see side bar), Kayla the Legacy Lady, Shauna of Pineapple Plantation).  I'm going to start a digi list this weekend so you have easy access.

Now waiting for the primary elections which come to LA next week!  Time to get out and vote everyone!  Be the change you want to see!

Enjoy! xo Colleen
